2021 Round-up

February 22nd 2022

Happy New Year from all of us here at NTS! After our usual Christmas shutdown we're back and raring to go! If you have any existing or new issues with your turbines, or if you're a new customer and require some information, please get in touch.

Brexit and Covid

As well as many highlights, 2021 also raised some new challenges to businesses across the country. The combination of Brexit and Covid has put strain on supply chains, with costs ever increasing in haulage, electrical components, steel and copper. We have always had a pro-active approach to stock management but more than ever this has become vital, with forecasted orders a must to ensure a steady supply of in demand parts and to try mitigate price hikes that are becoming more regular. Our fulltime Stockman has certainly been kept busy!

G59 - Accelerated Loss of Mains Programme

We have completed work on nearly all customer sites that have applied. If you haven't already done so, there is still time to do so before the funding is cut, please see the ALoMCP section of the News section for further info or get in touch if you have any questions. The DNOs have been still contacting the occasional customer to confirm if the work has been completed, if you have any queries please let us know and we can advise them of when work has been carried out if required.

Fleet Update

Part of our 2021 plan has been to update our ageing fleet. In 2021 we upgraded a John Deer tractor with a crane for use in Orkney. It has been such a success for sites with poor access or drainage in the wetter months that we are planning to upgrade our Fastrac for use in Aberdeenshire. We have also added a crane trailer to our fleet as well for sites further afield with its versatility proving useful.

Workshop Repairs and Upgrades

It has been a busy time in 2021 for the Workshop as we have had some turbines in for major repairs and others in for preventative work by means of upgrade. We'll update our website shortly with further information but in the meantime, please contact us if you have a major repair or are interested in upgrading your turbine.

Christmas Draw 2021

We decided to hold a draw for all our existing customers as a thank you for their custom with the lucky winner receiving a free turbine service up to the value of £2,000 inc VAT for use in 2022. The draw took place in January and the lucky winners were I&C Taylor of Banff. We plan on making this an annual tradition so good luck to everyone for next year!

Tractor run

2021 in Orkney ended with a rather special event, the first ever tractor run to take place in Orkney. Whilst a tractor run in itself is not unheard of, it certainly surpassed all expectations, with over 150 tractors taking part and more than £50k raised to date for charity! NTS made sure that we played our part with both Norman and Adrian driving tractors and taking part in the fundraising.

  • “Our turbine was down on the floor for well over a year with little prospect of our usual contractors re-erecting and getting it up and running again. Northern Turbine Services literally came to our rescue by re-drilling the base, enabling the turbine to be erected and commissioned again. The following 12 months, we had our highest trouble-free production since purchase with the new inverter proving its worth and all previous issues resolved.”

  • “Northern Turbine Services have done my service and maintenance since they started in business. They have always attended when called, carried out the work efficiently and quickly in all weathers. Always paying attention to detail, and interested to see turbine production after the work has been carried out.”

George Eunson, Corse Farm, St Ola (4 turbines)
  • “Northern Turbine Services have maintained my turbines for many years now, they always provide a quick and efficient service. Adrian and his team have unrivalled knowledge of the C&F machines which keeps my downtime to a minimum.”
